Will I have to pay more if I request a lot of repairs? (Back to top)
We don't believe in penalising our customers just because they make use of their protection, so we don't raise our prices for people who need repairs. We want you to be able to request a repair without worrying about your fees increasing.
How do I get a quote for my boiler? (Back to top)
Use our secure online process to get a boiler protection quote. You can also get a quote over the telephone by calling 08444 810 104*.
*Lines are open 365 days a year. Calls cost up to 5p a minute from a BT landline. Charges from mobiles and other providers may vary.
How do I know what kind of boiler I have? (Back to top)
If you have a hot water tank or an airing cupboard in your house, then you have a conventional boiler. If not, you have a combination boiler. Condensing boilers are specialist boilers and it is unlikely that you would have one of these in your home without being aware of it.
Is my boiler too old to be protected? (Back to top)
The age limit for a boiler protection plan depends on the type of boiler. You can take out a plan for a combination or condensing boiler if it's under 8 years old, while you can protect a conventional boiler if it's under 15 years old. Once you have taken out a plan on your boiler, there is no age limit on renewals.
Do you need to inspect my boiler first? (Back to top)
No. Your boiler protection will start 30 days after receipt of your application, without an inspection being required. However, please note that your boiler must be in good working condition when you apply, and that your application will be void/invalid if any information you provide us is either false or exaggerated.
Can I use my own boiler repairer? (Back to top)
You can't use your own repairer unless we advise you otherwise. The work of our repairers is monitored and guaranteed, and we ensure that they carry public liability insurance. We can't be certain of any of this with your own repairer. This is why we prefer all repairs to be carried out by our approved engineers.
What is your limit for a boiler or central heating repair? (Back to top)
With Domestic & General, you'll be protected for approved repairs or contributions towards a replacement up to the value of £1,500 a year. If any one boiler repair is estimated to cost more than £150, the repairer must call our repair authority line before going ahead with the work.
For how long can I protect my boiler on one plan? (Back to top)
Central heating systems can only be protected on an annual basis. However, when a boiler plan expires, there is no age limit on renewals.
Can I protect my oil boiler? (Back to top)
No. Unfortunately we are unable to protect oil boilers.
What do I do if I have a problem with my boiler or central heating? (Back to top)

What should I do if I smell gas? (Back to top)
Open all the doors and windows in your house. Don't turn on any lights or electrical equipment, as they generate a spark. Go outside and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. They will send an engineer to make your boiler safe. You can then contact us for an engineer to come and repair your boiler for you.
I have an annual service included in my plan. When should I schedule it for? (Back to top)
Annual boiler services are usually carried out in the spring/summer months. If you have an annual boiler service included in your boiler protection plan, call us on 08444 810 500* to arrange for an engineer to visit you. Find out more about central heating services.
*Calls cost up to 5p a minute from a BT landline. Charges from mobiles and other providers may vary.
